About Us

West Virginia in the mid-1800s had pioneers, wagon trains, and rugged mounting vistas. And, it had a handful of lawyers, seeking to support the businesses that were starting to tame the rugged terrain. In their own way, these advocates were helping build the territory, much as their mine-blasting, railroad-building counterparts shaped the new landscape around them.

Eustace Gibson was one of those lawyers, an energetic young man who acted as legal counsel for the founder of the city of Huntington, WV. Imagine an ambitious, dedicated lawyer, dreaming of hanging his shingle in the name of justice and equity, becoming a prominent member of the community. Gibson's story marks the birth of Huddleston Bolen, a romantic beginning that has blossomed to meet the needs of the 21st century.

Huddleston Bolen was established in 1871, just eight years after the creation of West Virginia – making it one of the oldest law firms in the state. Although we've been around almost as long as West Virginia itself, we have worked diligently to exceed Mr. Gibson's original vision and set goals for the future he could not imagine necessary or possible.

Proud of its heritage, but committed to the future, the lawyers and staff of Huddleston Bolen are dedicated to serving their clients' current needs, while planning for the changes and often unknowns of tomorrow. We are skilled attorneys, who come to work each day to provide exceptional counsel to our clients. Maybe that's how you get to be on of the oldest, largest law firms in the state, with client relationships first formed just after the Civil War and continuously growing every day.

Huddleston Bolen is a diverse collection of skilled attorneys and professionals, who work every day to provide balanced and thorough counsel to its clients. We are committed to carrying on the tradition of excellent lawyering our rugged ancestors began, while staying attune to the changes of our day and time. Our goal is to facilitate the journey through our clients' full range of business challenges, from litigation to tax compliance.

Perhaps Eustace Gibson would be proud to see his not-so-little firm today. Among our partners and associates are state bar presidents, county bar presidents, two presidents of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, a president of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel, and the incoming president of the national Defense Trial Counsel, the largest organization of defense attorneys in the world.

Our attorneys devote time to developing their skills in concentrated areas of the law and business, to offer a diverse, but well-grounded knowledge base to their clients. Participating in various legal groups and organizations also enables us to provide tested and timely advice to our clients. Targeting our clients' legal and business needs is our main objective. Attending to them effectively and comprehensively simply completes the equation.

Huddleston Bolen’s diverse practice areas include banking & financing, bankruptcy, class action and mass torts, corporate, business & commercial, health care, immigration, labor and employment law, benefits & compensation, litigation, real estate, trusts, estates and taxation.

Huddleston Bolen is an interesting mix of tradition, history and youth. Our firm is old in age, but young in the approach of our partners. This translates into an aggressive and savvy mindset in how we approach and help resolve our clients' challenges. The staff at Huddleston Bolen know their clients and their businesses. We understand the sudden and often unexpected changes that occur in the business and legal arenas. Our research and knowledge of our clients enables us to know exactly who they are, what they want to accomplish, and appropriate legal options for their needs.

In formal surveys and casual conversations, our clients point to our fierce determination to help them grow and succeed, day after day, deal after deal, decade after decade. That determination and dedication helps preserve our relationship with clients and allows us to maintain an exceptional rate of repeat business and growth through client referrals. Huddleston Bolen's strict focus on service and putting client needs before our own only makes sense. When we help a client succeed, we succeed as well.

The firm also prides itself in maintaining the latest technology – including in-house a state-of-the-art document imaging system that digitizes evidence and the latest in software documentation for making visually interesting presentations to jurors.

Huddleston Bolen’s commitment to growth and to meeting diverse client needs is demonstrated as it adds office locations. The one-time city firm now offers its expertise and service to clients on a regional scale, with offices in Huntington and Charleston, WV, Ashland, KY and most recently, Louisville.

The future is bright for Huddleston Bolen and its clients. With a continued focus on growth and enrichment of its traditional practices, Huddleston Bolen recognizes and welcomes new challenges in the business world. The long-standing tradition of focusing on the success of the client remains the primary goal. So, as we continue our growth pattern and expand our regional footprints, we are confident our clients are aggressively represented in the most effective, efficient and appropriate methods possible.
