LEGAL ASSISTANT

"A legal assistant is a person, qualified through education, training or work experience, who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, governmental agency, or other entity, in a capacity or function which involves the performance, under the ultimate direction and supervision of an attorney, of delegated substantive legal work, which work, for the most part, requires a sufficient knowledge of legal concepts that, absent such assistance, the attorney would perform the task." Huddleston Bolen is committed to the continuing involvement of legal assistants and recognizes their value in the Firm's practice of law. We provide more cost-effective services to clients by employing professionally- trained and well-educated legal assistants. We currently employ 25 legal assistants who work in various areas of practice including civil litigation, insurance, medical malpractice, wills, estates, trusts, and bankruptcy.

Legal Assistants at Huddleston Bolen are highly involved in the entire work-up of a case and perform a wide range of duties. Some examples of these duties are:

Develop and maintain case files.
Draft legal documents, correspondence and pleadings.
Assist in document production, answering of discovery and deposition preparation.
Summarize depositions.
Accompany attorney to trial.
The criteria for employment are a college degree with qualifying legal or related work experience, or a college degree with satisfactory completion of a formal paralegal education. Exceptions can be made in cases of those with significant legal or related work experience without a degree.

As a Legal Assistant with Huddleston Bolen, you will receive the following benefits: a comprehensive medical plan with optional dental plan, "HR-10" retirement plan, in which the Firm contributes 10% of your gross salary annually after two years of service, life insurance, short-term disability benefits, paid vacation, personal days, paid overtime for hours worked exceeding 35 hours per week, paid membership in one professional legal assistant organization, secretarial support, paid parking, and encouragement and financial support to participate in continuing education and seminars. Legal Assistants also typically receive a year-end bonus, based upon the Firm's profitability, hours billed (1500 hours per year expected) and seniority.
